2013 Block of the Month:: January

We are so excited about our Block of the Month program for this year. We will be posting a new block each month with a tutorial prepared by one of our guild members. The January block is being posted a bit late (so sorry!), but it is worth the wait. Be sure to follow our page so you don't miss out on the next block.

Special thanks to Kathy Kuryla of The Quilting Squares for taking on the challenge of our first block. Her block is so gorgeous (hopefully we can get a better photo of it soon). Without further ado, here it is...

SECRET SANTA SWAP

If you signed up for this swap last fall, we will exchange right after lunch.

DIRTY SANTA FABRIC SWAP

If you want to participate, please bring some fabric to swap, dirty santa style. How much fabric? The equivalent of one yard... a charm pack, four fat quarters or larger cuts is appropriate. Fabric should be new, unwashed and quilt shop quality. Don't forget to wrap your package. This is lots of fun, so be prepared for the highs and lows of this kind of swap.

It's time for our annual planning meeting! So, please come with your thoughts and ideas for fun things we can do next year! In addition, we will be seeking nominations for our 2013 Executive Board, which consists of the following offices: President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. Chelley Black will also share her ideas for the 2012 Secret Santa Swap.

CATHEDRAL WINDOWS WORKSHOP

Instructor: Jan Smith

The classic Cathedral Windows block is well-loved by modern quilters due to the striking, bold geometric pattern it creates. Join instructor Jan Smith as she shares her knowledge and skill in creating this block, both by hand and machine. The goal for the class will be to make an eight square sample which will result in 10 complete windows and 12 half windows.

Fabric Supply List:

1 yard background fabric ( "frame")
1/4 yard for windows (all the same or mixture)
Cotton thread for piecing and turning "frame"
Thread for the "frame" should match it
If a warmer quilt is wanted, add 1/4 yard of batting.


General Class Supplies
1. Sewing Machine-in good working order, new needle, ¼” foot, walking foot & all-purpose foot
2. Thread and bobbins
3. Fabric for class project
4. 6” x 12” ruler
5. Rotary cutter – new blade and cutting mat
6. General sewing supplies

August Meeting - Service Project Sewing Part II

(follow this link to create directions to this location, there is no street address for the clubhouse)

Please come out and join us for a fun day of sewing. Once again, we will be working on our service projects, so the more, the merrier. Feel free to bring a friend. This event won't count toward the one event maximum for guests, so this is a great chance to get to know our members and consider a membership for yourself. You can learn more about our service projects here.
