This month we are going on a field trip! The Tennessee State Museum has a fairly expansive gallery of quilts in a permanent exhibit. Admission to the museum is free. We will meet in the lobby at the Museum at 10:15. We will begin touring the exhibit at 10:30 as a group. You are encouraged to bring a camera so you can photograph your favorite piece (more details on that below). Please note that you are not allowed to use flash photography in the museum. If you are unable or don't know how to turn off the flash on your camera, Leah or Stefanie will be happy to take a photo for you. Our goal is to complete our tour of the quilt gallery by 12 noon. Members are welcome to stay longer and tour the other exhibits individually.
The museum is located at 505 Deaderick Street in Nashville. There is not a parking garage at the museum, but there are a number of parking options nearby. For a map of parking lots/garages, go here: http://www.parkitdowntown.com/maps. Free parking is available in the state employee lots that surround the capital building.
Why do you need a photo of your favorite piece from the exhibit? You will need it to use as inspiration for our first Make it Modern Challenge. We will show & tell our challenge pieces at the April meeting. Your challenge piece can be art quilt or lap quilt size. We will have more information about the challenge following our meeting.
If you are unable to attend our March meeting, but want to participate in the Make it Modern Challenge in April, we've got you covered. We will post photos of an array of quilts from the exhibit on our blog. You can then choose from any of those to create your challenge piece.
Please take a quick second to let us know if you will be joining us by completing the form below.
